Luke 10
(v2) And he said to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.
- This is a calling to continue working for the kingdom of heaven
- Importantly, Jesus commands are to pray earnestly that he would raise labourers to work for Him
(v11) 'Even the dust of your town that clings to our feet we wipe off against you. Nevertheless know this, that the kingdom of God has come near.’
- Even against non-christians who are unbelieving and unaccepting, we are to remind them about the truth
(v16) "The one who hears you hears me, and the one who rejects you rejects me, and the one who rejects me rejects him who sent me."
- Jesus is telling the disciples that those who hear their words (assuming that it is gospel centred) also hears Christ
- And thus, those who reject when we tell others of Christ, also reject Christ
- In turn, they also reject God (who sent Christ)
(v20) Nevertheless, do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven."
- Let us rejoice that Christ has chosen us
- That because of what Christ did on the cross - our names are written in heaven
- Things brings comfort and joy that our hope is secure - in fact, the hope that we have is unshakeable, meaning our joy that we have in Christ is also unshakeable
(v22) All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.”
- God chooses us to reveal himself to us
- It’s amazing that we even get to know who Jesus is
- It is by his grace that we are
(v37) He said, "The one who showed him mercy." And Jesus said to him, "You go, and do likewise."
- Jesus is telling them of the parable of the good Samaritan and how to love our neighbours
- I’m reminded to love my neighbours by loving the unloveable - even if it means that people will judge us for it or will look at us differently
- We are either way called to love everyone and not just those who it is easy to love
