Luke 9:28-61

(v28) Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him Peter and John and James and went up on the mountain to pray.
  • Jesus emphasises throughout his time on earth the importance of prayer
  • If Jesus did it a lot, its probably a sign that it needs to be pretty important in our lives too

(v32) Now Peter and those who were with him were heavy with sleep, but when they became fully awake they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. And a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to him!”
  • Because Jesus is the Son of God, His Chosen One —> we are to listen to him
  • It reminds me of the glorious day when we get to see Jesus face to face
    • When we get to see Him and his glory - the happiness and joy that will be

(v41) Jesus answered, "O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you and bear with you? Bring your son here.
  • Not too sure what this verse means - seems like Jesus is getting frustrated at the people for wanting him to be a healer and nothing more

(v48) and said to them, "Whoever receives this child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me receives him who sent me. For he who is least among you all is the one who is great.”
  • When we receive or put our faith in Jesus, that’s when we truly receive God too
  • Jesus also reminds everyone that those who enter the kingdom of God will be least on this earth (in that they are willing to sacrifice all the joys and riches that this world can offer)

(v58) And Jesus said to him, "Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.”
  • Jesus reminds us of the suffering and persecution and hardship he endured even while he was on earth
  • It encourages us that even the Son of Man was persecuted for living for God
  • It should push us to persevere and know that with Christ, we have already received everything that we will ever need

(v60) And Jesus said to him, "Leave the dead to bury their own dead. But as for you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”

  • Not even burying our own families is of any importance when compared to living a life for God
  • This shows how much we are called to give up for Christ - that even something like burying a family member should not stop us from proclaiming the kingdom of God
  • Do I really live my life like this? Or do I live my life with Jesus as just someone who can add joy on top of what I already have in this world and I only go to him as another source of joy - rather than the foundational one
