Luke 9:1-27

(v2) and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal.
  • As God's disciples we are commanded likewise to proclaim the kingdom of God
  • I'm reminded that this is the mission, to live my life for the glory of God and to proclaim his kingdom

(v5) And wherever they do not receive you, when you leave that town shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them."
  • Not too sure what Jesus means here but he is referring to how we are to respond when we are not well received as Christians in this world

(v17) And they all ate and were satisfied. And what was left over was picked up, twelve baskets of broken pieces.
  • Reminds me that Jesus is the bread of life
  • When I come to him, I will be wholly satisfied
  • This satisfaction is different to the satisfaction given by this world, in that it is permanent
  • This world can only offer temporary satisfaction

(v20) Then he said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" And Peter answered, "The Christ of God."
  • Who do we really say God is?
  • Do we see him as a genie, as someone who we follow when it's convenient?
  • Or do we truly see him as Lord and Saviour?
  • Reminds me that if I say Christ is king of all and the treasure of my heart, then I should live my life accordingly

(v23-24) And he said to all, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.  For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
  • We are to take up the cross daily
  • This encourages me to continue to strive to completely and utterly use my life devoted to Christ
  • To deny myself and everything of this world (money, success, relationships) and to follow Jesus
  • Let nothing stand in the way of my relationship with Christ, and to truly lose my life to Christ
