Day 10 - The Freeness of Grace Eph 2:4-6

Points/observations

  • In sin, we are dead. We are non responsive and a simply dead to all that matters
  • However, the good news is that God saved us unconditionally - meaning he made us alive despite us not being able to do anything
  • In fact, Eph 2:4 says that it was an act of "mercy". And not only this but it was only by grace we have been saved - and raised up with him.
  • This is because Paul is trying to emphasise the freeness of grace that has been given to us
  • If we are to live in Christ, it involves accepting the totally unconditional and free love that God offers to save us
  • In essence, the freedom is the very heart of grace

Application
  1. No amount of works can lead to salvation - is offered and delivered by grace alone through grace alone. I should spend less time thinking about what I can do to earn God's good grace, and spend more time remembering the salvation I've already received

Please fill my heart with love and peace that doesn't come from worldly success or objects but in the salvation through Christ. I pray you would give me rest and comfort amidst hardship and work and continue to create in me a heart that is solely devoted to sitting under your feet and your Word so that I might continue to grow to love you more. I'm sorry and repent for often being bitter and discontent with the life that you've given me. Lord please humble my heart to see your grace and mercy. Show me and give me rest that I know all the work for my souls salvation has already been done at the cross. Would I continue to come to you first with my anxieties instead of the comfort and people of this world.

James 1:19-27

Day 9 Observations Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person  be quick to hear,  slow to speak,  slow to anger (v19) for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God (v20) Therefore  put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness (v21a) receive with  meekness the implanted word,  which is able to save your souls. (v21b) But be  doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves (v22) For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror.  24  For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. (v23-24) But the one who looks into the perfect law,  the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts,  he will be blessed in his doing. (v26) Meaning Being: quick to hear - eager to listen to others slow to speak - you don't just impulsively say what's on your mind...

James 5:13-20

Key points When we're suffering our first response should be prayer When we're cheerful our first response should be praise A prayer of faith will save the one who is sick A prayer of faith is also how we repent and He forgives our sins We are encouraged to pray for one another so that we might all be healed There is comfort in knowing that the prayer of a righteous person (we are all righteous through Christ) has GREAT power We are encouraged to bring others who may have strayed from the path, back to the correct path Reflection I often don't look to God when I first face trouble or struggles. I should be comforted in knowing that when I go to God, he posses great power to actually respond and listen to my prayer I should be regularly praying for others and their sins (this involves asking others how to pray for them) When things are going well - am I praising God or myself?
