Day 1: Genesis 1-8
Genesis 1:
- "And God saw that it was good." - We are continuously shown that what God creates is good, because he is a perfect God
- So God created man in his own image. In the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
- We are created in the image of God. Before the fall, we were perfect human beings - something that sin has caused us not to be
Genesis 2:
- Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh
- The ideal for marriage
- And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.
- When we are made in God’s image and we are enlightened to the fact that we are perfect because God made us without sin, then we will not be ashamed
Genesis 3: The fall
- But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”
- God calls to the man first even though He knows that Eve was the one who first ate the fruit
- Your desire shall be contrary to[f] your husband, but he shall rule over you.
- God shows us the impact of the fall and sin
- By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.
- God commands that we will need to work and it will be difficult. We will not also die eventually (returning to the ground)
Genesis 4: Cain and Abel
- If you do well, will you not be accepted?[b] And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is contrary to[c] you, but you must rule over it.”
- “Not so! If anyone kills Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold.” And the Lord put a mark on Cain, lest any who found him should attack him.
- God shows his mercy and love despite Cain murdering Abel and condemning him from the earth
Genesis 5: Adam’s descendants to Noah
- ???
Genesis 6: Noah
- And the Lord regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.
- Sin grieves the Lord
- But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord. These are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation. Noah walked with God.
- God empowers and uses people who walk with him - even if he might not have been the best man for this job (in terms of his skills)
Genesis 7: Noah is saved
Genesis 8: God makes a covenant with Noah
- 21 And when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in his heart, “I will never again curse[a] the ground because of man, for the intention of man's heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done. 22 While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease
