James 1:12-18

Day 8

Observations

  • Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. (v12)
  • Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. (v13)
  • But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. (v14)
  • Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. (v15)
  • Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above (v17)
  • Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. (v18)

Meaning

  • Those who remain steadfast when life gets tough will be blessed - and moreover, they will receive the crown of life
  • God does not tempt people - thus we can never blame God when we are tempted r when we fall into temptation
  • In fact, we are actually tempted by our won desires - therefore it is a sin problem that can only be fixed through Christ
  • Desire --> Sin --> Death
  • Every good gift on earth comes from God

Application

  • When there are trials, there is an option that leads to life, and the option that leads to sin
  • I shouldn't blame God when I'm tempted and I fail
  • Constantly need to be thankful that every good gift comes from heaven

Prayer points

  1. Help me to see and remember God the eternal life that he offers when times are hard
  2. Be thankful of the good gifts he has given me
  3. Strength to fight against my desires and to pursue the crown of life instead
