James 1:1-11

Day 7

Read:

  • Count it all joy, my brothers,[b] when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. (v2-3)
  • let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. (v4)
  • If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. (v5)
  • So also will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits (v11b)
Reflect:

  • Count it joy when we meet trials of different kinds, because we know that the faith we show in these times produces steadfastness
  • James tells us that this steadfastness will then lead to a perfect and complete soul that lacks nothing
  • We should also be searching for wisdom through God and not ourselves.
  • James reminds us that God is a generous God, and will give to those without reproach (a quality that is described to be given when we remain steadfast)
  • We are encouraged to also pursue the heavenly things and not the things of this earth. We are also warned that as we pursue worldy things, we will 'fade away'
Pray:
Help me to pursue the righteous things. Lord, I also pray that during times of trouble, I might seek wisdom from you, and trust and believe that you will provide everything I need as well as give me the spiritual discernment to abide by your will. I pray that I wouldn't let the pleasures and gifts you've given distract me from the main mission and from putting you as my number one priority. Lord I pray that you would continue to build steadfastness in me, that it would lead to a perfect and complete soul that is without reproach.

Respond
Do you pray when times a tough?

Do you trust God is powerful enough?

Do you think Christ is enough?
