Luke 16 - Be faithful with the little things
v10) "One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in a very little is also dishonest in much.
- It doesn't matter how much God has given us, the fact remains that it is his and not ours
- As a result, even the little things he's given us, we should be faithful with and use to glorify God and not ourselves
- If we can't even be trusted with the small riches on this Earth then what makes us believe we're ready and deserving of heavenly riches
- Also a reminder that wealth on this Earth is 'unrighteous' and to instead store up treasures in heaven which are the true riches
v13) No servant can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money."
- How we act and what we do is a signal of where our hearts are
- If they are with money and success and worldly possessions than they cannot be with Christ
- Jesus doesn't say that love one and like the other. No he says we love and are devoted to one and we DESPISE the other.
- When we love money and worldly things, we actually despise Christ
v15) And he said to them, "You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted among men is an abomination in the sight of God.
- We can be Pharisees and appear to be holy and Godly and just in the sight of men
- But God knows our true hearts
- We are by nature sinful, so often things that please man are probably sinful
Application
- Am I a Pharisee when it comes to outward appearance. Do I care more about how many devotionals I do? how many books I can read? instead of loving and exalting the God whom I am to worship?
- I'm God's money manager - nothing I earn or get given is mine. It should all be used for the glory of God
